De r Sir Michael
As you see from the address, I got back to hongkong
after
i
quite safely last month, a
very hot journey. I was
unable to get the vise, via Siberi, in spite of the fact
that i we assisted by a Lbour M.P., ne the Secretary of
the Anglo-Pussion Parliamentary Committce. AS T
witter
of fret, i understand I would have succeeded, if I h d
applied through Muller, the Geraen passenger agents in
Haymarnet, London. I waited till the inst moment, hoping
to get to Russia as I had a letter of introduction to a
Russi-n Professor, which Leonard Woolf got ior me. I ad
hoped to see something of the educational work. My wife and
two children are coming out in February. They are staying
for the first term, to see the other two settled in school.
Braine-Hartnell vrrived softly on the Khivs two or
three days ago. He is a nice boyish fellow with a good
sense of humour rother valuabic out here. I had him
up to dinner last night. He is living at the University,
which is on the lower levels. I prefer to live 1400 feet
up on the Peak here it is always ten degrees cooler.
